Family Focus Team Receives
Child Abuse Prevention Award
Bath, NY (July 1, 2005) - The Family Focus Program
of Family Service Society, Inc. was awarded this year's Child Abuse
Prevention Award by the Steuben County Task Force for the Prevention of
Child Abuse. The Task Force presents this annual award to a person or
organization who goes above and beyond in addressing and working towards
eliminating child abuse.
The Family Focus Team (consisting of Ruth Goodwin,
Tom Buechner, Bonnie Preston, Marian Rezelman and Dick McMaster)
provides in-home therapeutic intervention that focuses on families in
which children have been abused and/or neglected throughout Steuben
County. These families require unique compassionate approaches that the
Family Focus Team professionally accomplishes. They offer compassion and
a willingness to help the parent create a safe, loving home, if this is
what the parent wants. Most often, this is exactly what the parent
desires. The parent has the goal of creating a safe, loving home but
feels little hope that he/she can accomplish this. The Family Focus Team
help families find that "hope." They help parents learn to
play and laugh with their children, learn to encourage children, and
learn how to use effective (and safe) discipline with their children.
