This 90-minute interactive webinar explores the clinical, ethical, and relational impacts of clients’ use of artificial intelligence in social work practice. As AI tools become increasingly integrated into daily life, clinicians are encountering clients who use chatbots for emotional support, decision-making, and mental health guidance. This session examines how AI use shapes client engagement, coping strategies, help-seeking behaviors, and the therapeutic relationship. Participants will engage in breakout rooms to analyze case scenarios and collaboratively identify strengths, risks, and intervention strategies across micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Grounded in social work ethics and human-centered practice, the session emphasizes maintaining clinical judgment, addressing bias and misinformation, and supporting clients in developing critical AI literacy and interventions.

Dr. Marina Badillo-Diaz is an experienced administrator with a demonstrated history of working in community mental health and in K-12 education as a social worker. Currently, Dr. Badillo-Diaz is a consultant focusing on the training of educators and social workers with MABD Consulting. She is also a former board member of the National School Social Work Association of America and an adjunct professor at Columbia University and New York University.
Dr. Badillo-Diaz is the creator of "The AI Social Worker," a pivotal resource offering guidance on 21st-century skills and AI applications for social workers. To date, she has trained over 5,000 social workers and clinicians across the US and Canada on integrating AI into practice ethically and responsibly while presenting at international, national, state, and local conferences, including the NASW, NASW NY, NASW-NC, CASW, OASW, SSWAA, SSWAG, and SSWADE.
Her professional interests are diverse and include 21st-century skills, social-emotional learning programming, school social work practice, education, youth mental health, clinical supervision, AI applications, data management, and career development.
