This 3-hour training helps providers understand how to use art responsibly within their professional roles without misrepresenting their services as art therapy. Participants will examine ethics, scope of practice, boundaries, trauma-aware facilitation, and referral considerations, and will leave with practical strategies for integrating art-based activities safely and appropriately.

Learning Objectives:
  • Distinguish between supportive use of art and art therapy.
  • Identify ethical scope-of-practice issues related to art-based activities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries when using creative interventions.
  • Apply trauma-aware and culturally responsive facilitation practices.
  • Recognize when referral to an art therapist is appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly about the purpose and limits of art-based work.
A note from our presenter, Lorie White, LCAT
Hello, my name is Lorie and I am have been doing art therapy since the 80s-only I didn’t know there was a name for all the thoughts and feelings I poured out on paper.

As a kid, I was always dabbling in different mediums that helped externalize the myriad of feelings I had about being a misfit in this world or simply trying to work out a situation that was confusing. As I grew older, I discovered theater though more through the creation of huge murals and set designs.
I worked as a scenic artist until I discovered Art Therapy and realized how much I enjoyed sharing the discovery of art making as a means to connect our inner and outer experiences, then connecting with the world around us.
