Bath Police Intervention Program

The Bath Police Youth Intervention Program was established in 1971 for the purpose of assisting youth between the ages of 7 and 18 that were first time offenders exhibiting incorrigible, ungovernable or illegal behavior that might lead to Family Court as a Juvenile Delinquent (J.D.) or Person in Need of Supervision (P.I.N.S.). The goal of the program is to eliminate further incorrigible, ungovernable or illegal behavior.

The Chief of Police serves as Program Director and contracts with Family Service Society, Inc. to provide the prevention education services to the youth. The Mayor and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Bath serve as the Board of Directors.
Referrals may be made by members of the Village of Bath Police Department, school officials, or parents/guardians who believe a youth between the ages of 7 and 18 will benefit from the Bath Police Youth Intervention Program and are first time offenders of violations, misdemeanors or are incorrigible or ungovernable. Local justice courts may refer youth between the ages of 16 and 19 who are eligible for Youthful Offender status under the Criminal Procedure Law and who may benefit from prevention education in this program.

The program serves the youth of Central Steuben County. There is no cost to the youth or to the parents/guardians served by the program. Funding comes from the Bath Police Department.
