History

A BRIEF HISTORY
Family Service Society, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to the strength and well-being of families throughout Steuben County. Family Service Society, Inc. began in 1918 and was instrumental in helping families who were afflicted with tuberculosis. During the Depression years the agency shifted focus to assisting families with their material needs. Counseling became the emphasis in the 1960s and it continues to be the focus of our services today. Over the next few decades, innovative programs were developed in response to community needs and changing therapeutic models. In 2000, the Corning Area Youth Center merged with Family Service Society, Inc., thereby making the Youth Center an official program of Family Service Society, Inc.
